MOTS-c
Mitochondrial-Derived Peptide
16-amino-acid mitochondrial-derived peptide encoded by the 12S rRNA region of mtDNA. Activates AMPK signalling to regulate metabolic homeostasis and insulin sensitivity in research models.
Mechanism of Action
MOTS-c is encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA and translocates to the nucleus under metabolic stress. It activates the AMPK pathway, enhancing glucose utilisation and fatty-acid oxidation, and modulates the folate-methionine cycle in research models.
